FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?
All appointments are by request only. Please use the “Booking” tab on the website or reach out to your preferred artist to schedule your session.

WHY ISN’T THE ADDRESS AVAILABLE ONLINE?
Hidden Hand is a small, private, appointment-only tattoo studio. Keeping our address private helps maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all clients. The address will be shared once your appointment is booked and confirmed with your artist.

CAN I BRING MORAL SUPPORT WITH ME TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Getting a tattoo can feel intimidating, especially for first-timers. You’re welcome to bring one supportive guest, but please keep the following things in mind:
• The artist needs focus to create your tattoo. Hovering, giving suggestions, or crowding the workspace isn’t helpful.
• Think of it like being at a dentist’s office — supportive, but respectful of the professional space.
• One guest is enough. We keep the “guest list” minimal to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
Eat a good meal and drink plenty of water beforehand. Staying hydrated keeps your skin healthy and makes your session more comfortable and efficient.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Avoid excessive sun exposure or contact with chemicals that could irritate your skin. Sunburned or damaged skin cannot be tattooed, and your appointment may need to be rescheduled. Deposits are nonrefundable in these cases.

SHOULD I SHAVE MY BODY HAIR BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
If you have excess body hair, trim it with a buzzer before your appointment. Do not shave the area, as this can irritate hair follicles and cause inflammation. Razor burn or irritated skin may increase your session time.

CAN I DRINK ALCOHOL BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
It’s best to avoid alcohol before your session. Alcohol thins the blood, which can cause excessive bleeding during your tattoo and may affect how well the pigment sets.

CAN I USE MARIJUANA BEFORE MY TATTOO?
While recreational marijuana is legal in Rhode Island, it can increase skin sensitivity and cause irritation during your session. For the best experience and results, avoid marijuana before your appointment.

I TAKE PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION — CAN I STILL GET TATTOOED?
Some medications can thin the blood or affect healing. Always consult your doctor before your appointment to discuss any medications you take and how they may impact your session.

DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEPOSIT?
Yes. Deposits start at $100 and can be paid in cash, Venmo, or PayPal. For larger tattoos, your deposit will be applied to your final session. Deposits are nonrefundable if an appointment is missed or canceled last minute.

WHAT WILL MY TATTOO COST AND HOW DO I PAY?
You’re welcome to ask your artist for a rough estimate before your appointment. Cash is preferred, but some artists accept Venmo. Confirm your artist’s preferred payment method ahead of time. The shop minimum is $100.

CAN I SEE THE DRAWING OF MY TATTOO BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
No. The design will be shown to you at your appointment. If you have any adjustments in mind, let us know beforehand so we can ensure you love your custom artwork.

HOW LONG WILL MY SESSION LAST?
Session length depends on the size and complexity of your tattoo. You’re welcome to ask your artist to provide you with an estimate.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed. Keep in mind that some ink may stain fabric.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY TATTOO?
Your artist will give you detailed aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and color retention. Follow these instructions carefully to avoid complications.

IS IT SAFE TO GET TATTOOED IF I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION?
Many conditions are safe for tattooing, but always check with your doctor first. Inform your artist of any relevant medical conditions or allergies.
